On Thursday, April 21st, Ocean Drive Magazine hosted an event in the heart of Miami's Wynwood Arts District to celebrate their April Latin Issue. Since Ocean Drive Magazine featured Miguel Paredes as one of this month's "Miami Faces," the event was held at the Miguel Peredes Fine Art Gallery (173 NW 23rd Street). Paredes [pictured on the right alongside the glamorous Elaine Lancaster] is an Urban Realist who combines cutting edge techniques of street art, pop art and Japanese animation to create his one-of-a-kind pieces. During the event, guests enjoyed cocktails and hors d'oeuvres while checking out the beautiful artwork on display. This event not only honored Paredes but it also benefited St. Jude Children's Research Hospital because 10% of the evening's art sales were donated to the organization. If you didn't get a chance to attend this event, you can visit the Miguel Paredes Fine Art Gallery during Wynwood's Art Walk on Saturday, May 14th, from 5-10 p.m. There will be food and drinks for all guests so make sure you RSVP early [email rsvp@miguelparedes.com]. Here's a glimpse of the gallery: Above Right: My beautiful friend Natalie Arroyave and her friend attended the event to support Miguel Paredes. Natalie is the host of Miami Music Television. Love her!!! Don't forget to pick up a copy of Ocean Drive Magazine's April Latin Issue to read how Miguel Paredes juggles art and entrepreneurship. On Saturday, May 15th, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and FedEx held their 8th annual Angels & Stars Gala at the InterContinental Miami Hotel. During the gala, Latin Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter Juanes was honored with the 2010 "Al-Rashid Hope Award." The award recognized Juanes for his international humanitarian efforts and his quest to help bring awareness to children's causes. Model and television host, Daisy Fuentes, was also in attendance to support St. Jude and serve as a hostess for the evening. When asked about the gala, Daisy stated that she is "elated to see how the Hispanic community in Miami and around the country has embraced the mission of St. Jude so dearly." Events of this caliber help to support life-saving initiatives such as the St. Jude International Outreach Program, which has dramatically increased the survival rates for children with cancer around the world. This program has partnered with clinics in more than 15 countries including Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Honduras, Chile and Brazil. Overall, an amazing mission for amazing children!!!
